Adding a new email account
Setting your Outgoing Server (SMTP)
1. Adding a new email account
On the
File
menu, click
New
and then
Account
... or click the
Create a new account
icon
in the main menu.
Select
Email account
and click
Next
.
Enter your
name
and
email address
. Click
Next
.
Select
POP3
as your
type of incoming server
and enter your
Incoming Server
as mail.mydomain.com, replacing 'mydomain.com' with your domain. You maybe asked to enter your
Outgoing Server
. This need to be entered to be the same as your incoming server. Click
Next
.
Enter your
Username
as your full email address (e.g. john@mydomain.com). Click
Next
.
Enter a name by which you would like to refer to this account. Click
Next
.
You will now be shown a summary, check your information, and if everything is ok click
Finish
.
Click
to tell Thunderbird to connect to your email and retrieve your messages. Thunderbird will now ask you to enter the password for your email account. Your password needs to be entered exactly as you specified when signing up for the first time, or as saved in your email/hosting control panel. If you want Thunderbird to save your password tick
Use Password Manager to remember this password
. Click
OK
.
2. Setting your Outgoing Server (SMTP)
From the main menu, click
Tools
,
Account Settings
...
Click
Outgoing Server (SMTP)
from the options on the left and enter the
Server Name
as mail.mydomain.com, replacing 'mydomain.com' with your domain. Tick
Use name and password
and enter the
User Name
as your full email address (e.g. john@mydomain.com). If your ISP blocks port 25, enter a new port value of
26
. Click
OK
to complete the setup process.
